In July of 1908 a young man from Texas, Johnny Parker, came to Eight Mile to visit his brother, Will Parker. Johnny Parker, son of a Baptist preacher, was attending school in Waco, Texas. This young man had a zeal for souls and seeing the need for revival, he secured permission to use the Methodist Church. Growing crowds attended every service and soon there was a need for more space. The meetings continued in Will Gaston’s barn. Seeing the need for a building the members furnished labor and materials to build. The first pastor was Douglas Parker, the younger brother of Johnny Parker. The church was duly constituted in 1908 and admitted to the Mobile Baptist Association in 1910.
Myers Memorial Baptist Church today has a glorious opportunity. Programs are being designed to meet the needs of every age and provide spiritual growth. God has greatly blessed our church for 113 years and Myers Memorial Baptist Church will continue to reach out to those in need in our community and our world.
